Staying fit is the only way to ensure good immunity to fight an attack of this killer microorganism. The common summer illness’ we find around us are there too. Things like sunburn, dehydration, heatstroke, heat rashes, food poisoning, cold from excess sweating, and what not have always been coming along with summer! This year, the virus has come along with them. Thankfully, the current lock-down situation has minimized our exposure to the scorching sun. So, sunburn can be ruled out to a large extent. However, we cannot ignore the possibilities of the rest and need to take a few steps to stay healthy in these few months of extreme conditions.
The first and foremost thing we should do is to keep ourselves hydrated. The heat and sweat can easily dehydrate our bodies. Drinking 2 to 3 litres of water in a day is the easiest way to avoid illness’ caused by dehydration. Also, it is better to reduce the intake of alcohol, soft beverages, and caffeine, as these tend to dehydrate the body easily. Plain water or freshly squeezed juices are the best alternatives.
The second step is to eat healthy during the entire period. Try to take light and small meals. Eat six times instead of three times a day perhaps. Heavy meals, rich in carbohydrates and fats, tend to generate heat in the body. It is better to have more fresh fruits and salads to keep your diet light and healthy. Choose vegetables and fruits with high water content to keep you stay hydrated from inside.
Summer is the season when we tend to get heat rashes and other skin ailments because of the weather and sweating. It is necessary to take some extra skincare. Keep your skin thoroughly washed and toned. Keeping the skin moisturized is a way to keep these problems away.
Maintain an exercise regime. There are several indoor exercise regimes that would keep you fresh and healthy through this harsh weather.
Last, but not the least, keep all your worries away and try to maintain a positive frame of mind. We know, it’s difficult to stay positive, when there are depressing news making rounds. But, keep in mind that unnecessary worries have a negative impact on one’s immunity. Staying happy is a sure shot way to stay healthy.
Let’s try to follow these steps to keep ourselves healthy. Life is not about just staying alive. It is about staying well after all!
