Our incredible country is gearing up to celebrate the 71st year of being a Republic on January 26th. On January 26th, 1950, the Constitution of India became effective, replacing the country’s Dominion status. The Constitution was embraced by the Constituent Assembly on November 26th, 1949. January 26th marked the nation’s evolution to a Republic. The particular date was chosen as, 20 years prior, in 1930, the Indian National Congress had made the Declaration of “Purna Swaraj” (absolute independence) on the same day, instead of the Dominion status the British had offered.
After India got her independence on August 15th, 1947, a Drafting Committee, headed by Dr. B.R.Ambedkar, was delegated with the duty of drafting the country’s Constitution. A draft was set up and submitted on November 4th, 1947. After several considerations and adjustments, 308 members of the Assembly marked two manually drafted duplicates of the Constitution on January 24th, 1950, which became effective throughout the country a couple of days later.
Today, the entire country celebrates Republic Day to commemorate the historic event that brought its Constitution to power. The main celebration happens in New Delhi at Rajpath, which includes colorful parades that pay tribute to the unity India maintains in spite of so much diversity. Every year, foreign dignitaries, like the head of nations, grace this occasion as the Chief Guest. Jair Bolsonaro, the President of Brazil, is expected to grace the occasion this year.
On the occasion of 71st Republic Day, we, at Goel Ganga Group, wish all a very Happy Republic Day! Let us all work towards building a nation, being citizens of which, is going to be #PureDelight.
